Students from English Major Achieved Success in the Finals of 2019 NECCS

Recently, the finals of 2019 National English Contest for College Students (NECCS) were successfully held in Changchun, Jilin Province. Gao Fan (from English Major 1602),as the first prize winner in Shandong province, finally won the second prize in the final of the 20thNational College StudentsEnglish Speech Contest. Meanwhile, on behalf of Shandong team (one of three contestants), she won the third prize in the final of 20th National English Debate for College Students.

Established in 1999, the NECCS is the only English comprehensive competition for college students in China. With the approval of the Higher Education Division of Ministry of Education, it was co-hosted by International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL China) and College foreign Language Teaching Research Association. The national finals of the 2019 NECCS are divided into three parts: the 20th National College Students’ English Speech Contest, the 20th National College Student English Debate Contest and the 13th National College Student English Talent Contest. All the contestants were the outstanding ones who won the special prize in the finals of each district or the first prize in the competition of their colleges and universities. Over 450 contestants who entered the national finals are from more than 260 colleges and universities in 30 provinces, cities and autonomous regions.

The breakthrough made by our student in the finals of the NECCS shows the overall strength of English teaching in our college. It is another achievement in deepening the teaching reform and strictly controlling the quality of teaching.
