A Postgraduate of College of Arts won the second prize of Contemporary Russian Literature Reading Competition

In the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, the Contemporary Russian Literature Reading Competition was held by the Russian Consulate General in Shanghai and the Russian Department of Fudan University, so as to promote the reading and research of contemporary Russian literature among Russian major students in Chinese colleges and universities. A number of Russian major students participated in this activity, and they were from more than 70 domestic and foreign universities, including Moscow University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, Zhejiang University, Heilongjiang University and etc. The papers for the contest should be on contemporary Russian literature as well as being in accordance with academic norms.

More than 200 papers were received during the competition. After the voting by the domestic and international expert judges, finally there was one for the first prize, three for the second prize and five for the third prize. Sun Mingze is a postgraduate of College of Arts who majors in foreign language and literature (Russian). His essay, The Analysis of the Religious Implications of Zakhar Prilepin's Novel ‘Sanica’ stood out in this competition, winning the second prize. The award ceremony was held on the 7.6th in Fudan University, during the 9th Russian Literature and Art International Academic Frontier Forum. The Consul General of the Russian Consulate in Shanghai presented and issued certificates and prizes to the winners.

Sun Mingze’s essay The Analysis of the Religious Implications of Zakhar Prilepin’s Novel ‘Sanica’ discusses the realistic novel written by Zakhar Prilepin, a new generation of Russian writer in the 21st century. This novel reveals the value of Russian traditional spiritual concept and its influence on contemporary Russians, by interpreting the struggle process of the protagonist, and understanding the convergence of personal spirit and national consciousness.
