Teachers of College of Arts attended International Conference on Internationalization and Modernization of College Foreign Language Education

In response to President Xis call for accelerated education modernization and building a nation of strong education at the National Conference on Education, the International Conference on Internationalization and Modernization of College Foreign Language Education was held in Xian province on July 5 to 6, 2019, hosted by College of Foreign Language of Northwestern Polytechnical Universities and co-organized by College of Foreign Language of Northwestern Polytechnical Universities and International Cooperation Office. Attendants include experts and scholars at home and abroad.

Prof. Wang Shouren and Prof. Wen Xu were invited to delivered keynote speeches. Prof. Wang offered a modern perspective and talked about some required competence of students majoring in foreign languages in the new era. While Prof. Wen, from the perspective of integration, expounded upon the new requirements for internationalization and modernization of college foreign language education. At the same time, from the perspective of ideological and political cultivation in courses, he also proposed that college foreign language education should follow the moral education path of talents cultivation under the guidance of core socialist values.

In the form of sub-forum, this conference saw broad and deep discussion over multiple core issues in foreign language education: 1. new aims, new philosophy and new measures of college foreign language education; 2. international talents cultivation based on a school’s specialties; 3. reform and innovation of college foreign language courses; 4. professional development of foreign language teachers in the new era; 5. the development of foreign language teaching and evaluation; 6. unity of general and specialized courses, disciplinary integration and cultivation of pluralistic talents; 7. cross-cultural education against the backdrop of the Belt and Road Initiative; 8. the construction of extracurricular activities system.

Li Jincai and Zhao Li from the Second College English Department delivered speeches and joined discussion in the sub-forum.
