The team from China University of Petroleum (UPC) has declared the winner of the Second Moot Court Competition for postgraduates in Qingdao. Organized by Ocean University of China, the competition ended on 12 May 2019 after a two-day intense pleading. Five universities have participated, including China University of Petroleum, Ocean University of China, Qingdao University, Shandong University of Science and Technology and Qingdao University of Science and Technology.
The team from College of Arts consisted of seven postgraduates majoring in law of 2018, and they were Song Hua, Wang Mengke, Jiao Ping, Yu Wenlong, Xun Yatong, Xue Min and Tang Jie. Before the competition, Dean of Law Department, Qin Yong, and associate professor Leng Ling, have given full guidance to the team. Leaded by Song Hua, the team had practiced conscientious preparations within limited time and tough tasks. All the seven even members together won the good comments of the judges and the respects of the opponents for their outstanding performances and legal accomplishment.
In the preliminary round of the 2nd competition, team from our university competed against two teams from Qingdao University and Qingdao University of Science and Technology separately. After one and a half hours intense debate, our team moved on to the semi-final and then won the final with strong confidence.
The Moot Court Competition improved the students’ ability to deal with practical legal issues, forged their psychological quality, and accumulated specialized experience in criminal prosecution, defense and competition. Moreover, this competition fully examined the theoretical foundation, adaptability and advocacy skills of students majoring in law as well as shown the strong strength and excellent teaching achievements of our college.
