The second National Symposium on Humanities and Social Science discipline construction of petroleum universities was held in Xi'an University of petroleum on July 16-17. The symposium was aimed at implementing the important speech of chairman Xi Jinping, From the practice of China's reform and development, we should put forward new viewpoints and build new theories, and strive to establish the discipline system, academy system and discourse system with Chinese characteristic ,Chinese style,and Chinese manner” and communicating the experiences and achievements of petroleum universities in the construction of new liberal arts, and further exploring the discipline construction of Humanities and Social Science. More than 70 scholars from China University of Petroleum (East China), China University of Petroleum (Beijing), Southwest Petroleum University, Changjiang University, Northeast Petroleum University, Changzhou University, Chongqing Institute of Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology, Guangdong Institute of Petrochemical Technology and other more than 10 petroleum universities in China engaged in humanities and social science teaching and research attended the meeting. Wang Xuedong, principal of our college, Wei Xuebao, vice principal, and other 3 teachers attended the meeting on behalf of the college.
Professor Li Tiantai, President of Xi'an Petroleum University, and Zhang Zhen, chief editor of Petroleum Industry Press,on behalf of the organizers,gave speeches in the opening ceremony. Professor Lv Yibing, vice president of Changjiang University, Professor Cheng Yongqing, vice president of Xi'an Petroleum University, and Professor Ma Ruiying, director of Social Science Department of Shanxi Normal University, made professional reports respectively.
In the group discussion, the participants exchanged views on the energy industry and the development of Humanities and Social Science and the transition of talents training mode in the construction of new liberal arts . Principal Wang Xuedong briefly introduced the construction of the college and the new liberal arts. He elaborated excellent legal talents training mode : The unity of knowledge and practice, disciplines integration and cross boundary integration explored and formed by the law major of our college in recent years, as well as the innovation points and promotion and application effects of this mode. Wei Xuebao, Shen Zhuangjuan and Sun Feng exchanged ideas extensively with the participating experts in combination with professional development and talents training under the construction of new liberal arts.
Through deep communication and mutual learning, the participants all agreed to take this meeting as an opportunity to make full use of the advantages of communication on the Humanities and Social Science platform of petroleum universities, and all universities should share resources and support each other in the construction of first-class majors and first-class courses, and strive to strengthen the specialty and discipline construction of Humanities and Social Sciences; all universities adhere to the fundamental task of building morality and cultivating people, take advantage of the good genes of petroleum universities, focus on the moral and cultural literacy education of college students in the new era, and improve the quality of students' essential-qualities-oriented education. In the construction of the new liberal arts, we should integrate the development of the energy industry and the Humanities and Social Science, promote the intersection of disciplines and the integration of industry and education, cultivate a group of petroleum students with the what is of vital importance to the nation in mind, and cultivate new people of our time who take responsibility for the important task of national rejuvenation.
